Zhang Yuan, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor, A level Outstanding Young Talent in Xi'an Jiaotong University, an expert in the evaluation of the annual projects and late funding projects of the National Social Science Foundation and an assessment expert of the achievements of the National Social Science Foundation and the dissertation quality monitoring of the Center for Academic Degrees and Postgraduate Education of the Ministry of Education, also an expert in the national research of the nationalities and regions of China.
Research interests: Ethnic Communication, Visual Communication, Communication and Society. She serves as both an executive director of the Audiovisual Communication Branch and a director of the Ethnic Minority Journalism and Communication Research Branch of The Chinese Association for History of Journalism and Communication, who is also a visiting scholar at City University of Hong Kong(2017)and University of Florida(2018-2019). Professor Zhang has published nearly 30 academic articles in prestigious journals such as Chinese Journal of Journalism & Communication and Jinan Journal, and her articles have been reprinted in NPC Photocopies(Film and Television Arts). She has published monographs like Cohesion of Consensus: A Study of Mass Media Use and National Identity Perception(2021)and The Other in Mirror Image: A Study of Ethnic Minority Reporting in Mainstream Media in Transition Period(1979-2010)(2017), and has been awarded two National Social Science Funds for the Study of Social Media Use by Ethnic Minorities and Cultivation of Chinese National Community Consciousness Cultivation Research(No. 20BXW093), “Study on Mass Media and National Identity of Ethnic Minorities”(No. 14CXW006). She presided more than 10 other projects such as the Humanities and Social Sciences Research Program of the Ministry of Education and the Provincial Philosophy and Social Sciences Research Program, etc.
Research Award: Constructing Ethnic Minority Images in the Official Media-Based on the Analysis of Ethnic Minority Reports in People's Daily(1979-2010)that won the second prize in the category of research papers on ethnic issues of the National Ethnic Affairs Commission of the People's Republic of China.
